The present studies have been undertaken to the epidemiological aspects and chemothe￢rapeutic effects on the Clonorchiasis in upper and middle areas in Gum river.
Fecal specimens were collected from all inhabitants of Buri, Jewon Myun, Gum san Gun, Dongi Myun, okchun Gun, Sintanjin, Dae duk Gun in Gum river.
The 28 patients were selected from inhabitants of Dongi Myun, Ok chun Gun and had medicated Embay 8440, 3 x 25mg/day for 1 day or 2 days, and had checked therapeutic effects by stool examination at 30 days and 60 days after Embay 8440 medication.
The results are as follow
1. Among the sureveyed area, the prevalence rate of Helminthic infection was shown as 86.6% and Clonorchis sinensis (50.7%), Trichuris trichiura (45.5%) and Ascaris lumbricoides (36.8%) were noted.
2. Geographical prevalence rates of Clonorchis infection was shown as Gum san Gun (43.9%), Okchun Gun(58.9%) and Dae duk Gun(47.9%). Prevalence rates of Male had been 2-3 times more than female.
3. By age distribution, there was more prevalence rate of C. sinensis with growing age and peak rate was 5th decade(62.4%).
4. The degree of the intensity of Clonorchis infection by EPG count in the surveyed area was distributed by most, light(1-999), next number, mild (1000-4999), heavy (10, 000 or over), moderate(5, 000--9, 999) infection groups.
5. Cure rates were 2 days group(91. 6%), 1 day group(87. 5%) of praziquantel medi￢cation.
6. Hematological and biochemical tests showed no abnormal findings after therapy which might be due to the medication
7. The assessment of tolerance recorded only a few side effects such as itching sensation & erythema, headache, nausea, numbness.
It was evidently shown that the human clonorchiasis could be successfully treated with a few doses of praziquantel without any serious side effect.
Therefore, Praziquantel is the most promising drug for the treatment against Clonorchis sinensis infection.
